Visiting, Shopping and Eating.
I've been in Utah visiting my Mom and Step Dad since Saturday. The flight was easy - no long lines or crowds shuffling through the corridors of Ontario airport. I stopped in my calm haste to pick up some reading material for my flight and headed to my gate, sat down in a quiet spot and settled in to read a couple of pages before were called to board the plane.
This was my first time flying Southwest so I had no idea when I boarded where to sit and wondered why they took my ticket at the gate - I felt a tinge of panic in my chest before a flight attendent told the girl in front of me that we could sit wherever we wanted. What? I'd never heard those words before on any other flight. It felt kind of strange but it wasn't long before I found a aisle seat near the back of the plane.
So far my visit has mostly consisted of sleeping in until 8:30 am, eating breakfast with Mom and Chuck and then hitting the After Christmas sales. We have hit not just one Target but two plus Walmart, Bath and Body Works and Kohl's. I've definitely learned on this trip that together, we are dangerous. Lethal even, zero-ing in on the must-have's and the too-cheap-to-pass-up's. We always gravitate to the Christmas section in the back corner of the store in search of pretty ornaments, dirt cheap gift labels and party wares for next year.
Today we went to see "Little Fockers" - it was funny. Predictably funny but still funny and then we enjoyed lunch at Chili's complete with a pomegranite margarita for me and for Mom - a neon green concoction that was a spin-off from your typical long island iced tea. Tomorrow the plan is to stay inside and bake as a storm comes in to bring in more snow. Should be fun and relaxing. It's been a great trip so far - chatting and relaxing, shopping and eating far too much. I guess now my only worry is how I'm going to get everything home!
P.S. If you like "Chick-Lit" I highly recommend the book above!
I hope all of you are enjoying what is left of this beautiful holiday season
XOXO,
Malissa

Then I sat back and read some more...SO nice!

Gift labels for next year for .65 each!
A mix to make some fish shaped treats for Quincy and Sunny
At Kohl's we bought warm clothing to get us through the rest of the wintery season. I managed to pick-up two great sweaters (I love the styles out this season) that normally retail for $40 for $13 and I also found some beautiful blingy picture frames that will adorn our mantle next holiday season that were 60% off.
And at Bath and Body Works I snagged some Twilight inspired body wash and lotion called Twilight Woods that has a woodsy yet sweet smell to it, my favorite CO. Bigelow mint lip gloss in Barely There tint and some chocolate peppermint fragrance refills for my wallflowers. The full size body wash and the 2-pack of refills were $5 and the mini lotion was only $3.

Think Pink

Think Pink.
Hope. Courage. Love.
Then I stumbled on the Susan G. Komen website. I read her story - Susan Komen's story is nothing short of inspiring. A must-read and wake up call for those of us who are stressing out about the "little things" - laundry piling up, the car breaking down (even if it is for the second, third or fourth time) the errands missed and the dinners burnt to a crisp.
The Komen website also has this great way to raise money and awareness: The "Passionately Pink for the Cure" program. By PARTICIPATING either individually or through the creation of a team, you choose a day, a week or even a month of activities or events to raise money and awareness. The website even has a list of ideas to choose from: Perhaps a Pink Bake Sale? or a Pink Pajama Party? Maybe a Pink Scavenger Hunt? or a Pink Birthday Party? Perfect for those of you who will celebrate your birthday in October!
With these crazy economical times, its difficult to donate money but there are many other ways we can help to make a difference. The first is simple - Awareness and Prevention: Conduct regular self examinations because Doctors believe that early detection can save your life. The American Cancer Society recommends, "yearly mammograms starting at the age of forty and clinical breast exams every three years for women in their twenties and thirties."
We can also SHOP from specific companies who support the Breast Cancer Research Foundation by selling their popular products in a pretty shade of pink. Every day items you probably would have spent your money on anyway, such as yogurt, cereal or maybe wine for an upcoming dinner party. Or items you may have already been in the market for, such as a new pair of reading glasses or a BPA free water bottle to replace your old one. And then there are the "gotta have it" products and the "too cute to pass up" products like Essie's perfect shade of pink nail polish or a piece of pretty jewelry from the Hearts and Hands Collection.
This is just a small list of the "Go Pink" products:
- Sutter Home Wine
- Mike's Hard Lemonade
- Pinky Vodka
- Send a Facebook Birthday Wish
- White House Black Market (yes, that's right Ladies!)
- New Balance Merchandise (shoes, T-shirts, etc.)
- Essie "We can do it!" Pink Nail Polish
- Peepers Reading Glasses
- Hearts and Hands Journey Collection (Jewelry)
- Trudeau's Hydration Water Bottle
- Wilson HOPE Tennis Racket
- Tom Boy Tools
- "Strength" Cell Phone Cases by Otter Box
- The Pink Ribbon Collection on Red Envelope
- The Pink Ribbon Place on Etsy
- "Pink Ribbon Heart" Necklace - Etsy
- Hope Courage Love Tile Necklace - Etsy
- Eco Friendly Sandwich Bag - Etsy

The New Maggie Collection by benefit

I recently bought this fun compact from benefit. Of course, like most girlie girls, I was first drawn to the sweet and colorful cover. This particular palette is called "Sunday Funday." I had never used a product from benefit before so I thought I'd take this little set home to try out and I LOVE it!
Apparently, when I wasn't looking cosmetic companies decided to get really creative with their packaging. You can't tell in this photo but the large mirror in the back can be moved so that it can stand on its own AND just at the right angle. (I get excited over the littlest things, I know!) The colors are great with just the right sheen and who can resist the clever names: "Light Champagne", "Shimmering Bronze" and "Pretty in Plumb."
The compact also includes a pretty rose colored cheek stain, a bronzer with a brush, an eye liner and even a lip gloss, also rose colored. And last but not least, it came with a a cool insert that has several lessons in the many ways to use the different colors (perfect for me since I am still a novice when it comes to in applying make-up properly)
The best part is, since everything you need is in one travel friendly compact, it's easy to throw it in your bag - rendering make-up bags completely unnecessary. Pretty smart and Fun. Economical too, with a price tag of $38.00. (About $4.75 per item)
P.S. The Cheese Ball I made for the par-tay last night was a hit! And to think, it took me less than 15 minutes to put it together! Here is the recipe. Enjoy!
